2009 Christmas Greetings From Camp Indianola |

On one hand any reference to “cycles of life” or “ rhythms of nature” would seem to be abstract concepts… on the other hand, here at Camp Indianola, with our natural surroundings of Puget Sound waterfront, wetlands and forest, we experience and observe first hand a variety of ongoing changes. It is time to reflect and rejoice on this past year’s ministry at this special place, Camp Indianola. Several thousand children, youth and adults spent significant time here in 2009, participating in meaningful educational, recreational and spiritual activities. We saw a very low overall attendance in our United Methodist Summer Camp programs due to the trickle down of a slow economy. However, much of our year-round operation held steady. The volunteers and staff of Camp Indianola have proven to be resourceful in “ever striving” to be good stewards while providing quality programs and experiences. God’s presence is clearly evident to me during the changing tide of people , plants and animals that pass through Camp Indianola each year. We celebrate a year ending and prepare to embrace the year to come. May the message of Christ’s Birth bring you Peace, Hope, Love and Joy. Merry Christmas, Pete Simpson - Director

August 2 – 8th, 2009 Camp Indianola participated with The Suquamish Tribe – 2009 Tribal Canoe Journey, as one of several hosting locations. Working together with our UM Conference Ethnic and Multicultural Development Ministries, it was made possible to gift the use of our camp facilities and grounds to the Suquamish Tribe as they met the challenge of providing week- long housing for all Canoe Journey participants and their families. Camp Indianola is located within the boundaries of the Port Madison Reservation and this site is enriched with the heritage of the Suquamish People.
